Technical Description: The apparatus consists of three pipelines emerging out from a common manifold. One pipe line contain a Venturimeter, second contains an Orifice and third pipe line contains a Rota meter. The pressure tapings from the Venturimeter and Orifice meter are taken to differential manometer to measure pressure difference. The Venturimeter, Orifice meter and Rota meter are connected in parallel and any one of them can be put in operation by operating valves provided at the downstream. Present set-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit, provided with a sump tank and a centrifugal pump. Flow control valve and by-pass valve are fitted in water line to conduct the experiment on different flow rates. Flow rate of water is measured with the help of measuring tank & stop watch.

LEARNING OBJECTS/EXPERIMENTATION:
  • To determine the co-efficient of discharged through Venturimeter and orifice meter.
  • To measure discharge through Venturimeter, Orifice meter and Rotameter
  • To calibrate the Rotameter.

Technical Description:
  • The setup consists of a two sided clear fabrication section. Water is fed through a nozzle and discharged vertically to strike a target carried on a stem which extends through the cover. A weight carrier is mounted on the upper end of the stem. The dead weight of the moving parts is counter balanced by a compression spring. The vertical force exerted on the target plate is measured by adding the weights supplied to the weight pan until the mark on the weight pan corresponds with the level gauge. A total of two targets are provided, a flat plate and a hemispherical cup.

"PIPE SURGE & WATER HAMMER APPARATUS"(With Data Logging Facility)
Technical Description The equipment is self-contained and is close circuit system. It consists of two test sections, one for pipe surge and other for water hammer phenomenon. The whole system incorporates a head tank, measuring tank, sump tank,circulating pump, a lever operated gate valve and flow control valve. The water enters the test pipe via the constant head tank and discharges into the measuring tank.Two electronic Pressure sensors with current output of 4 -20mA are installed on the unit.The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Labview of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by K. C. Engineers. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computer using software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.

    The Centre of Pressure Apparatus has been designed to determine the static thrust exerted by a fluid on a submerged surface and allow comparison of the measured magnitude and position of this force with simple theory.A fabricated quadrant is mounted on a balance arm, which pivots on knife-edges. The knife-edges coincide with the centre of arc of the quadrant.     Technical DescriptionThe present set-up is designed to visualize the ideal flow around immersed body. It consists of a flowtable in which flow of water is circulated in between two transparent sheets with a small gap between them. Water is supplied to the table and a colored dye is injected in the inlet of flow at different location. Water from the sump tank is pumped by a centrifugal pump to a calming section for table and after passing through transparent sheet it goes to sump tank. By-pass and flow control valves are provided to regulate the flow.Flow is made laminar by operating inlet control valve for water and it is visualized due to transparent sheet and colour. A small capacity dye tank will be provided for the flow of dye in fluid inlet stream. Any obstacle can be placed between the sheets and change in flow pattern can be visualized. Obstacles of different types will be supplied with the apparatus.
